Most backpacks are not waterproof, at least not for good. The most simple, effective and durable protection is lining them with an ultralight dry bag. A dry bag in the backpack reliably safes your belonging from water, regardless of being in the boat or on back. This style has been popular with packrafters for many years.
However, which dry bag in this regard has the best ratio of weight, durability and value? We think these! Tatonka's "Stausack" is fully waterproof with taped seams and classic roll-down closure, super lightweight (80g/L) and of exceptional value (from 12€). This has been a long research and many try outs to have found these the most convenient. Compared to silicon base version (like SeatoSummit) we found these more durable and much mor affordable, especially as every ultralight dry bag has a limited lifetime of a couple years.
- Size S is ideal for small things and extra stowing
- Size M fits a typical daypack well.
- Size L is good for lining a classic ultralight backpack. This will do for sleeping bag, Tent and belongings.
- Size XL is more amble for the purpose and also makes a good, alternate inflation bag for the boat as multi use item (MYOG only).
